A recent early-2026 study found that 68% of US Google searches now end without a single click — the user gets their answer directly on the results page (AI Overview, featured snippet, knowledge panel) and the search is over. This isn't a US-only phenomenon — the same trend is accelerating in Hungary too.

What does this mean for your business?

If you've been tracking your Google ranking position, that number increasingly tells only part of the story. You can rank #1 and still get fewer visitors than before — because the answer already appears on the results page, before anyone clicks through to your site.

What can you do about it?

Two things matter most:

  • Be the cited source — if the AI Overview cites you, your name/brand shows up even without a click-through; this needs clear, structured, machine-readable content.
  • Don't rely only on Google — as search clicks decline, direct traffic (Google Business Profile, social media, referrals) becomes relatively more valuable.

How does davelopment help with this?

Every site we build has GEO fundamentals (structured data, clean markup, content that stays fresh from real Google Business data) built in alongside technical SEO — see our SEO & Content Marketing service.

Summary

Zero-click search doesn't mean SEO is dead — it means the goal has shifted: you need to earn visibility and citation, not just clicks, even in places where the user never reaches your own site.
